Matthew P. Hughes, M.D.

Dr. Matthew P. Hughes, is an Atlanta native who stayed in Georgia for both his undergraduate and medical studies. After graduating from Lovett, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors at the University of Georgia in Athens and then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. While in medical school, he received the prestigious Excellence in Medicine Clerkship, awarded annually to one junior student who demonstrates the utmost in skill and dedication.

After graduation, Dr. Hughes completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. Thereafter, he remained in Little Rock for a dermatology residency. To advance his training even further, he completed a procedural dermatology (Mohs) fellowship in Kentucky at the University of Louisville. He has published and presented extensively on many dermatological matters, including skin cancer viruses, drug toxicity, and genetic mutations as they relate to cancer. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (board certified) and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

His passion for preventative care and the total treatment of skin cancer is evident even outside his professional endeavors. While in Arkansas, he served on the board of the Arkansas Foundation for Skin Cancer. This organization, composed of local dermatologists, increases awareness about skin cancer through educating both the medical community and general public. Dr. Hughes also spearheaded a yearly free skin cancer screening event for the community. His philosophy is simple: provide nothing but exceptional care to patients no matter their condition or concern.

Dr. Hughes specializes in dermatologic surgery, focusing his work on Mohs micrographic surgery and advanced reconstruction. He also offers invaluable expertise in the fields of skin cancer, fillers and neurotoxins. He enjoys cooking, fishing and being outdoors with his wife, Erika, and their dog Bentley.
